He was an ordinary bookseller. But one day, thanks to his decision, he became the richest person in the world for many years. Of course, when he made this decision, he didn't know how his life would change. He expresses those times like this: "I wouldn't regret it if I failed, but I knew I would regret it if I didn't try." Do you know how many people have been motivated by this statement to follow their dreams? Let's get to know Jeff a little better.
Who is Jeff Bezos?
Jeff Bezos, an entrepreneur and one of the dragons of e-commerce, was born on January 12, 1964 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bezos' fascination with computers began at an early age. From an early age, Jeff Bezos displayed an extraordinary mechanical talent that matched his various scientific interests. As a teenager, she made an electric alarm to keep her younger sisters out of her room. Jeff's family eventually asked him to move all his stuff into the garage, and he then turned the garage into a lab for his science projects.
Bezos wanted to study physics at Princeton University, but his love of computers made him change his mind. After graduating from Princeton University with a bachelor's degree in computer science and electrical engineering, he went to Wall Street and worked at several financial firms.
Here, Bezos entered the world of finance with the investment company DE Shaw. In 1990, he became the youngest senior vice president in the company's history. It was at this company that he met his wife MacKenzie and they married in 1993.
While working at DE Shaw, Jeff encountered a number that changed his life and the course of Internet history. While browsing the Internet looking for new business initiatives, Bezos found a statistic that the World Wide Web was growing by 2,300 percent per month. Bezos immediately saw the potential for selling products online. During a long walk in Central Park, Shaw tried his best to convince Bezos to stay with his company, but Jeff's decision was firm.
Amazon.com, born in a garage
Bezos left DE Shaw in 1994 and moved to Seattle to open an online bookstore and enter the world of the Internet. He compiled a list of possible products he could sell over the Internet, including CDs, software, and hardware. Another advantage of an online store over other stores was that the US China WhatsApp Number List Supreme Court ruled that mail orders without a physical presence did not have to pay taxes. In other words, Bezos would have to pay zero tax on the products he sells over the Internet.
Jeff Bezos was able to raise $1 million from family and friends, which was enough to build his business in the garage of his home in Seattle. On July 16, 1995, he launched the Amazon.com website, named after a famous South American river. Bezos continued to diversify Amazon by selling CDs and books in 1998 and later established retail partnerships for clothing, electronics, toys and more. While many dot.com sites failed in the early 1990s, Amazon prospered, with annual sales of $510,000 in 1995 exceeding $17 billion in 2011.
In 2006, Amazon.com launched its video-on-demand service; Originally known as Unbox Box on TiVo, it was eventually renamed Amazon Video Direct. In 2007, the company launched the Kindle app, which allows users to buy, download, read and save a selection of books. Amazon has thus become one of the leading online stores in the world today...
Bezos founded the space company Blue Origin in 2004, and the company's main goal is to develop new technology for spaceflight with a "permanent human presence in space." The company has a 26-acre research campus near Seattle and a private rocket launch facility in West Texas.
On August 5, 2013, Bezos purchased The Washington Post newspaper and other publications related to parent company Washington Post Co. for 250 million dollars.
In early December 2013, Bezos launched a new experimental venture called Amazon Prime Air to provide delivery services to customers using drones and remotely operated vehicles capable of performing a variety of human tasks. These drones can transport goods and travel up to 10 miles from a company's distribution center.
These new ventures, along with smartphones, TV series, cloud storage, airlines and social networks, have made Amazon not only the largest e-commerce site in business, but also one of the world's leading technology companies. In July 2017, Bezos became the richest person in the world, surpassing Microsoft founder Bill Gates. The inspiring story of Jeff Bezos has shown us once again how ambitious, visionary, creative and of course determined individuals can succeed. Remember, if Jeff hadn't tried all of this, he would be one of the thousands of older men living in America right now. |
